Having almost a whole week off of work was so nice! I like the work I do - but it's nice to have a break away from everything that is routine. After picking out new eye frames, we drove to D's house for Thanksgiving. It was so pretty! There are still (short) green fields since it hasn't snowed a lot. I love Thanksgiving so much because it means time with family and delicious food. We made apple pie, peach cobbler, cheesecake, turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, and it goes on. We ate a lot!

I'm grateful for the family that I have and all the blessings we've seen together and individually. If you stop to think about the things that seem little - like having clothes, health, food, a home, etc. you'll see how blessed you are very quickly! Gratitude can really make you happy.

An Engagement

All Rights Reserved.

This week just started, but it feels like so much has already happened. The weekend and this week just smooshed because I'm so excited for Thanksgiving! D and I went to town on a date for dinner and some coupon shopping because there's more variety in the city. We drove by the river at sunset and I saw a girl with her hand outstretched and I shouted, "She's engaged!!" I didn't even know her. It was just the guy and girl so I told D to drive around the block for us to ask them to take a photo for them. We had our DSLR on us and I was already thinking, "They can frame the photo and everything!"

We got out of the car and congratulated them and they were so happy! Young love! They said we could take a photo... so I turned the camera on... and then the thing I dread the most... "No Memory Card." Booooohisssss! We took one with their iPhone... but I couldn't believe we forgot the card :( But anyways... it was a happy day for them! I remember when we got engaged - I felt so happy like never before and when I hugged D after he proposed I said, "I never want to do anything bad. I want to be good." I love that day.

It seems like it’s always around this time of the year that I am more reflective in life. Sorry for that... but not really. I like it because it gives me perspective on the right things in life. Looking back I find myself thinking of “I wish I could be doing that instead of this right now”, “I wish I had done that when I could have”, etc. But then I wouldn't be where I am now … I like where I am now and where I’m going.

It’s been getting really chilly around here so I look through this summer’s photos to warm up some. I have a lot of flower photos and then I thought, “They just stand there all day and look beautiful.” That made me think about my purpose in life. What is the flower supposed to do and what I am I supposed to do?

The big picture is simple, but when I think day to day it gets complicated. But it really shouldn't be too complicated right?

What are your thoughts? I’m curious to know.

One of working society's favorite day (specifically 5pm)! It's just been a busy week and slow at times. I really don't like leaving home when it's dark and getting home when it's even darker. It'll be 5:30pm and the moon and stars are out like it's midnight. This is why I love Saturdays and Sundays - because there is light I can actually enjoy and do stuff in. Or I can be grateful I get to see any light at all :)

Yesterday I went to a meeting where these delicious pastries were served! It was SO. GOOD. I want to make them. Here's the recipe!

Who doesn't love sleeping in just a little bit on Saturdays and waking up to no alarm because it's so bright outside? I sure love it! We got these sheer, white curtains that soften the light that comes through the window and it's my favorite. Another favorite is fresh flowers.

I just had to take share a photo, or two :) I don't think they're going to last much longer. Having flowers in the office at work makes the biggest difference. It makes things feel alive. Same having them in the house. I'm still dreaming and planning our flower garden for when the day comes. For now, I'll just plant my daffodils to bloom early next spring.

Earlier this year, D had a talent show in his drawing class and they had a waffle breakfast and everyone was asked to bring a topping. This wonderful lady brought her peach topping and David brought home a baggie with some of it. IT WAS DELICIOUS! It's perfect on pancakes, waffles, bread, by itself, everything! I had to get this recipe so we asked and she was kind enough to share it with us.

I made sure to get lots of peaches this summer to can this deliciousness!

Yesterday we had some friends over for dinner and made a last-minute pumpkin pie. It turned out so yummy and smelled so glorious! We didn't wait for it to cool to serve it and pipe light and fluffy whipped topping on the top!

I got this 15 lb. pumpkin and cooked it... all from scratch! I love making things from scratch even though they take a little while longer. But it tastes so much better! It made more than 1 gallon of puree.

November Nature

The other day I was coming out of my car and got a whiff of this fall air. It smelled and felt so 'homie' and familiar like warm blankets, hot chocolate, lots of pumpkin, apple, and cheesecake pie, young love, warm hugs, and family. I love this time of year when I get little reminders of the good things that have happened in the past years. It all come back so clear. I'm so excited to spend time with my family during the holidays and celebrate this past year.

Looking back on what's happened in 2013, I remember the good things first. Same with all other years. For that I am grateful! I don't remember the bad things until I think about it.

We went couponing at Walmart this weekend (went from $33 to $17 when we checked out!!) and were so happy to see Christmas decorations! It's like we skipped Thanksgiving. I love just going to the store and seeing all the colors that remind me of my favorite holidays!

I love music and I miss making it now that I'm all grown up and graduated. Last month I read over a list of life goals I'd like to accomplish and one of them was: "Conduct an orchestra." I've always loved conducting but haven't really had the opportunity to conduct an ensemble. I just love what music can do and how it can "flow" through my body. I then saw another goal about joining a community ensemble and being active in the community.

I don't remember how I got to the town's orchestra facebook page - but I did and I am so happy I did! I quickly contacted the city and they put me in touch with the general manager for the orchestra and then with the principal percussionist.... who happened to be... drumroll.... my last ensemble conductor in college! Dr. Taylor has taught me so much. He quickly replied and next thing - I missed the first rehearsal.
But then through tender mercies and perfect timing, I made it to the second rehearsal! Tonight we had our concert: "¡Fuego Latino!" (Latin Fire! in English).

It's been so busy these last weeks coming home for 5 minutes after work to go to rehearsal right after... BUT I LOVE MUSIC! It was so worth it. The music was a bit of a challenge at first - so rhythmic and time signatures I wasn't comfortable with before - but one step closer to my other goals! I can't wait for next season!

What we performed:
Sensemaya by Silvestre Revueltas
El Amor Brujo by Manuel de Falla (one of my faves!!)
Danzon No. 2 by Arturo Marquez
Navarra, Op. 33 by Pablo de Saraste
El Salon Mexico by Aaron Copland (the other favorite!)

Rexburg Portrait Photographer

This young man is one of my favorite people in the WHOLE. WIDE. WORLD. He is such a good example to me even though he was the youngest sibling for a long time. He has taught me to not be afraid of things, to have faith in good things, to be strong, to stand for what I believe and to be slow to judge.

Helaman is now serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I am so proud of him for preparing to serve for the next two years in teaching people about what he knows to be true. He gets to go to a place he has never been to before with no family connections to share something we both love. For that I admire him!

(I'm not even his mom and I miss him like a son! ahh!)

It's been a little while since I posted last. It's been busy with trying to do everything before it gets dark outside. That's one thing I miss about summer... 9:30pm sunsets!

I convinced myself to pick 15 more pounds of Empire apples (only the best apples ever!) and some more mason jars to make more pie filling! We will be using it to make apple coffee-minus-the-coffee cake, apple crisp, apple pie, apple cake, and apple everything with a cup of cinnamon tea while we watch Downtown Abbey this January. I can’t believe it’s almost 2014!

This last weekend one of our friends got married! It was a really special ceremony and we loved it! Their family are friends and were so nice to make us feel like family on their special day. We were so glad it rained a drizzle right after we got done with photos. Perfect timing.

fall colors idaho

fall colors idaho

I love color!! (in case you didn't know.)It's interesting that this season is known for it's colors - even though spring and summer are both full of color, too! I love the warmth of fall colors to balance how chilly it's getting. There's been a few sprinkles of snow, but I haven't seen it yet. Hopefully we can enjoy some more color before it's all covered in white. These are just outside my office. I'm pretty sure they changed from green to this in 1 day!

Fall is here!

Well, it's that time of year again: overcast skies, warm and soft blankets and sweaters, pjs and fuzzy socks from last Christmas, hot chocolate and ciders, and not minding how hot the house gets when you bake because the house is cold... but not cold enough to turn the heat on. And not to mention how everyone is getting sick!

The things is - I can't believe how fast it came! It all happened in a weekend! no joke. I miss summer and spring not just because of how beautiful the land was everyday, but because I got to spend a lot of it with my Honey. We got to do so many fun things and talk a lot about our dreams and plans for the future.

But, every season has its personality and good things to bring! We're super excited to make some canelita (cinnamon tea) or wassail with some scones and apple coffee cake. Good thing we picked and canned all those apples! (Recipes forthcoming!)

2 years ago today...

2 years ago I said "Si" the most wonderful man and becoming more wonderful each day - my husband! I can't believe our story. Everything worked out so perfectly like someone had written a script and told us exactly what to do! I'm so happy I said "Si" to being his girlfriend that night after not being able to sleep the whole night with the biggest pit in my stomach (in a good way!) and feeling like I was going to pass out, haha.

(We met singing under the stadium at school, shared a hymnbook, and talked just a little. This photograph was taken that night and published in the school paper that Tuesday! I love that he proposed he be my husband and I his wife in the same place!)

Queen Elizabeth

This weekend was not very relaxing... so many things to do! But at least things got done. I decided I needed to pick more apples to can some apple pie filling and maybe some applesauce... whenever I look up how to make it! Queen Elizabeth.. I mean.. my sister came with. It was so much fun to have her climb on my back like when we were little and pick some apples. I'm glad she lives right next to me now. My favorite thing to do with her is laugh.

About the queen part.. when we were little.. she used to make me bow.. and if I shook a little.. I had to do it all over again.

My little artist

I love that D is a designer. And artist. And best husband ever! I get jealous of his homework sometimes because he gets to make beautiful things.

One and a half cups of sugar.

Before we left for three weekends, David and I got lots of yummy peaches to make some peach pie filling to can.

As soon as I was ready to cook them I found out there was no sugar.

On my way to the store I talked on the phone with a friend I haven't seen in forever and talked about how overwhelming the first day of university is. It made me miss BYU-I more than I already do. The excitement of new classes and new teachers, new everything. Graduating is great but I don't get to see as many people as I'd like to since I started working.

After getting more than the sugar I needed, the bag boy and cashier were too happy with the customers; I wanted to hurry up and get out. And then... they made it personal and asked if I was a student. They were so surprised I graduated and had a job right away in what I studied. Blessings!

Sometimes it takes other people to see what we have been blessed with. I know I have been greatly blessed - but I haven't paid enough attention to "see" and appreciate those blessings.

On my way out... I saw some friends and they said they had just asked someone about me. All this time I thought I was forgotten and out of the game... a grown-up. I'm so grateful for friends and even acquaintances who remember others.

Before school started...

All Rights Reserved.

D started fall semester today! It's exciting because he'll be taking cool classes that I wish I could still be in school for - but sad at the same time. All spring and summer we drove to work and ate lunch together. I got to take naps on the drive! We got home at the same time so we could go out and do fun things!

Now that school is starting we won't get to spend as much time together. He has a big course load this semester and after that until next year :( But maybe it'll all be good - I can make him dinner and stuff! This weekend we got to go to Boise to visit D's mom from Hawaii! Our trip was too short! But we had fun talking and hanging out. That was nice. I love being around our family and wish we could all see each other more often.

It's been a busy end-of-summer for us! We've driven to SLC and back twice within a week. It seems like everyone wanted to get married right before school starts! (YES, everyone.)

It was fun and not to mention exhausting! Ok... I did mention it! The best part was seeing my family. So many things are happening: graduations, marriages, missions, anniversaries, birthdays, and no sleep! It's a fun year!

I love spending time with family after not seeing them for so long!

I am officially legit!

Today a really nice, sealed envelope was in the mailbox! Inside was my undergraduate diploma! As much as I miss school, I'm really grateful to have graduated from BYU-Idaho. It's one of my favorite and best places I've ever been to. It's changed my life, my way of thinking, how I see people, and how I do things. It's also where I met teachers who really cared for my learning and answered my questions because they wanted me to learn and grow - not to show off.

I'm grateful for the people, especially my family, that helped me get to school and sacrificed so I could be where I am today! Something my Abuelita Yola always wanted for her kids was for them to go to school and to give up anything to go. I'm so glad my parents taught me that, too. I know my family will be better off because of it. We've already seen so many blessings by going to school!

Fresh Pickings

It so happens that there is a U-Pick in our backyard! (Well... it's super close like a backyard.) All this time... like a year. We first went to get snap peas and green beans and then some tomatoes, eggplant, and corn! And tomatillos! We've decided that when we grow up, we want to grow our own produce at home. If we can, why shouldn't we?

Canning At Midnight

There is an apple orchard on campus… one of our favorite places to go! It’s so beautiful in the morning. And midday. And evening! We picked some apples to make some pie filling for the cold months ahead when fruit isn't cheap.

We weren’t planning on canning, but we have quite a few mason jars we keep tripping over in the house. We had 2 wedding receptions to go to the next morning - so to keep fruit from rotting we canned at midnight! We started at 7pm and went until 1:30am. I don't recommend it!

A little happy family!

This little family is so sweet! The Thorpe's just had their little Hailey in June and she's just the cutest baby girl! She received her name and blessing this Sunday and we got to take photos of their family :) They're seriously the sweetest family we've met and we're happy they're our friends!

Before heading up to my sister's wedding, we got to visit my D's family who doesn't live too far away for Labor day! Every time we go his Dad always takes us on a little hike somewhere we've never been before; I love it! I love getting away from the computer, work, the house, the world and everything and just spending time in nature with the people I love. The leaves are starting to change color even though it's late-summer.

I feel like I can't remember what fall and winter are like after the heat of summer... but I'm not too excited about it being cold just yet - or am I ever?! D's dad took us to a little, hidden waterfall and on the way back we saw a double rainbow. At the house we saw his sister's garden. She planted aster like us, but her actually grew! There's so many flowers that we didn't think they were real! Lucky her!

I wish this last weekend had no end. Spending time with the cutest boy -  I call my husband - is the best and I can't wait until another weekend :) Last year the kindest friends arranged for us to stay at a little cabin in West Yellowstone for our honeymoon - so we had to go back for our first anniversary!! We loved it so much! We had yummy dinner and a play and the nicest weather!

The next morning we walked a few miles holding hands in a pretty trail and talked about how great our first year as husband and wife has been! So many blessings! We also met some really friendly people - everyone waived hi to us as they rode off in their ATVs! It's like the butterflies followed us everywhere, too! We love being in nature and aren't quite ready for winter yet...
