I love music and I miss making it now that I'm all grown up and graduated. Last month I read over a list of life goals I'd like to accomplish and one of them was: "Conduct an orchestra." I've always loved conducting but haven't really had the opportunity to conduct an ensemble. I just love what music can do and how it can "flow" through my body. I then saw another goal about joining a community ensemble and being active in the community.

I don't remember how I got to the town's orchestra facebook page - but I did and I am so happy I did! I quickly contacted the city and they put me in touch with the general manager for the orchestra and then with the principal percussionist.... who happened to be... drumroll.... my last ensemble conductor in college! Dr. Taylor has taught me so much. He quickly replied and next thing - I missed the first rehearsal.
But then through tender mercies and perfect timing, I made it to the second rehearsal! Tonight we had our concert: "¡Fuego Latino!" (Latin Fire! in English).

It's been so busy these last weeks coming home for 5 minutes after work to go to rehearsal right after... BUT I LOVE MUSIC! It was so worth it. The music was a bit of a challenge at first - so rhythmic and time signatures I wasn't comfortable with before - but one step closer to my other goals! I can't wait for next season!

What we performed:
Sensemaya by Silvestre Revueltas
El Amor Brujo by Manuel de Falla (one of my faves!!)
Danzon No. 2 by Arturo Marquez
Navarra, Op. 33 by Pablo de Saraste
El Salon Mexico by Aaron Copland (the other favorite!)

Rexburg Portrait Photographer

This young man is one of my favorite people in the WHOLE. WIDE. WORLD. He is such a good example to me even though he was the youngest sibling for a long time. He has taught me to not be afraid of things, to have faith in good things, to be strong, to stand for what I believe and to be slow to judge.

Helaman is now serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I am so proud of him for preparing to serve for the next two years in teaching people about what he knows to be true. He gets to go to a place he has never been to before with no family connections to share something we both love. For that I admire him!

(I'm not even his mom and I miss him like a son! ahh!)

It's been a little while since I posted last. It's been busy with trying to do everything before it gets dark outside. That's one thing I miss about summer... 9:30pm sunsets!

I convinced myself to pick 15 more pounds of Empire apples (only the best apples ever!) and some more mason jars to make more pie filling! We will be using it to make apple coffee-minus-the-coffee cake, apple crisp, apple pie, apple cake, and apple everything with a cup of cinnamon tea while we watch Downtown Abbey this January. I can’t believe it’s almost 2014!

This last weekend one of our friends got married! It was a really special ceremony and we loved it! Their family are friends and were so nice to make us feel like family on their special day. We were so glad it rained a drizzle right after we got done with photos. Perfect timing.

fall colors idaho

fall colors idaho

I love color!! (in case you didn't know.)It's interesting that this season is known for it's colors - even though spring and summer are both full of color, too! I love the warmth of fall colors to balance how chilly it's getting. There's been a few sprinkles of snow, but I haven't seen it yet. Hopefully we can enjoy some more color before it's all covered in white. These are just outside my office. I'm pretty sure they changed from green to this in 1 day!
